The Games

Compete on the Reef

The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games was first held in Cairns, Queensland in 2013, and has since been held every second year. The 2021 Games were amazingly our biggest and best yet despite the global pandemic, and we now look forward to the sixth instalment to be held from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 May 2023. Cairns is the ideal location to host the Games, being one of Australia's most popular holiday destinations with a myriad of local attractions, dining, adventure sports, reef activities and entertainment within close proximity to the city centre.

Participants from across Australia and Oceania come to compete at the Great Barrier Reef Masters Games in their own age group with no qualifying standards in their chosen sports. We currently have 23 sports signed-up and more still to come – so there will be something for everyone
